N-Level And IBDP Graduates Embark On New Chapter Of Success

Results Release: GCE N-Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

It was a month of anticipation as both our GCE N-Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) graduates received their results just one day apart. On 16 December 2024, our 17 GCE N-Level student-athletes celebrated as they achieved a 100% passing rate and were ready to move forward into the next phase of their academic journeys.

Among the 12 student-athletes who took the Normal (Academic) examinations, 11 of them were eligible to progress to Secondary 5. Footballer Harith Danish Irwan was one of them. He shared: “Although my score was not up to my expectation, I knew I had done my best. Now, it is time to look forward to the next step. I plan to go for my National Service first and resume football while studying again.”

The five student-athletes from the Normal (Technical) stream also performed well, earning places in Nitec programmes at ITE. Netballer Danya Chua was among those who excelled. “I am pleased with my N-level results, which reflect the hard work and dedication I have put into my studies. I am now looking forward to pursuing the 3-year Higher Nitec in Sports Management at ITE,” said Danya.

The IBDP cohort also had reason to celebrate on 17 December 2024, with the Class of 2024 achieving a 100% passing rate and all graduates eligible for admission to both local and overseas universities. More than 75% of the 30 student-athletes scored at least 38 points out of a maximum of 45 points.

These student-athletes have taken the less-travelled path, dedicating themselves to high-performance sports while managing the demanding academic rigour of the IBDP. 23 student-athletes of the Class of 2024 earned their spot in National Youth Squads or National Teams during their time at Sports School, with over 75% of them scoring 38 points or more.

Among them were fencer Cheung Kemei, who competed in two consecutive Southeast Asian (SEA) Games during her three years in the IBDP, winning individual bronze and team gold in Women’s Foil at both events. Jaymie Ng Wan Xin also made history as the youngest female golfer to represent Singapore at the most recent SEA Games in 2023. Both athletes credited the flexibility of the extended IBDP for allowing them to balance intense training and competition schedules with their academic commitments.

“Sports School student-athletes made considered sacrifices to chase their dream of representing Singapore by choosing a path different from most of their peers. Supported by the school, their parents, the National Sports Associations and the National Youth Sports Institute and Singapore Sports Institute, they have shown that high performance sport and rigorous academic programme can go hand-in-hand,” shared Principal Ong Kim Soon.

He added: “What they have achieved is more than the score or even the medals they have won, but the qualities of a disciplined and resilient athlete that will carry them far in life. The achievements of the Class of 2024 has wrapped up our 20th Anniversary well by affirming how the Sports School community and partners are able to support student-athletes in their long-term holistic goals.”
