From 10 to 25 March 2025, 10 rifflers from the National Youth Team and 2 coaches had the opportunity to participate in the MEC Training Camp and 37th International Saison Start for Shooters (ISAS) at Dortmund, Germany. It was an incredibly enriching experience that allowed me to grow both technically and mentally. This training camp exposed me to a different coaching style and training environment, pushing me out of my comfort zone as I adapt to new methods and perspectives of this sport.

The biggest takeaway I learned was the importance of staying open-minded when receiving feedback and making adjustments. At first, I was uncertain about my ability as some techniques and corrections felt unfamiliar, but through embracing them with patience and persistence, I saw significant improvements in my performance.

Aside from benefitting under the tutelage of experienced coaches, we were also able to consolidate our learnings and put them into practice at the 37th ISAS competition where the team performed admirably against top youth shooters from countries such as Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. Applying the adjustments under pressure was challenging, but it reinforced the importance of mental resilience and adaptability. Competing against skilled athletes from different backgrounds also gave me a clearer understanding of my strengths and areas for improvement.

Overall, I am grateful for this opportunity to train overseas and expand my knowledge in Shooting. Not only had this trip enhanced my skills, but I was also able to cultivate other values such as resilience and continuous learning. I will carry these lessons forward as I strive to improve further in my sport.

From 17 to 25 March 2025, 4 pistolers and 1 coach had the opportunity to join a training camp and a local shoot at Daegu, South Korea, where personal bests were achieved.

I was able to gain useful knowledge to enhance my shooting technique. During the training camp, I had to adapt to many changes like the new environment, my re-adjusted pistol grip and my improved position. We were coached by a local coach who was very helpful and encouraging despite the language barrier. We had to communicate through google translate but that was not an issue at all.

Throughout the 6 training days, there was a total of 3 friendly matches with the Daegu Shooting Team and we got to shoot against their local shooters. Training alongside them allowed me to observe their behaviours and their training attitude. This not only made me feel like reciprocating the same attitude in my home ground but also made me reflect on myself and change my perspective towards shooting competitions and trainings.

The shooters displayed a balance of play and training which I find hard to replicate as I feel like I am always focused on getting good results that I forget to enjoy the process of achieving the result I want. I feel like this Training Camp was much needed as on top of gaining shooting knowledge, it made me reflect on myself and how I can improve to become a better shooter both physically and mentally.
