Temasek Polytechnic CCA Scholarship 2024

Heng Jun Rui, an alumnus of Singapore Sports School, has been awarded the prestigious Temasek Polytechnic CCA Scholarship 2024 for the academic year 2024/2025. This accolade recognises his outstanding achievements in 10-Pin Bowling (Men) and contributions to the Informatics & IT Studies Club at Temasek Polytechnic.
The Temasek Polytechnic CCA Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate excellence in co-curricular activities while maintaining strong academic performance. Jun Rui’s dedication to 10-Pin Bowling and his active participation in the Informatics & IT Studies Club exemplify his commitment to both sports and technology.
Jun Rui was part of the Bowling Academy during his time at Singapore Sports School. He completed his secondary education in 2020 after finishing Secondary 4 and has since continued to excel in sports and academics at Temasek Polytechnic.
Receiving the scholarship for the second consecutive year, Jun Rui expressed his gratitude for being recognised again: “It feels good to be acknowledged for my accomplishments for the second year in a row, having received this scholarship last year too. This recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence in both my sport and my academics.”
Since graduating from Singapore Sports School, Jun Rui has continued to develop as an athlete and a leader. “I continued bowling, as well as taking on leadership positions, such as becoming captain of TP Bowling and vice-president of my school’s Studies Club simultaneously. These roles have helped me grow not just as an athlete but also as a leader.” His ability to balance both responsibilities highlights his dedication to both his sport and academic pursuits.
Reflecting on his time at Singapore Sports School, Jun Rui shared how the school instilled in him values that continue to guide him today. “Resilience is one of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt – when things get difficult, I always remind myself to keep pushing, even when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Humility is another key value – no matter how much I achieve, I always keep my head down and look for ways to improve. Lastly, time management has been crucial. With all of my commitments, especially during my internship, juggling everything without a proper schedule can be overwhelming, so learning to manage my time effectively has been essential.”
Jun Rui also credited the people who have supported him throughout his journey, particularly his seniors and coaches at SSP. “My friends and seniors Russell, Yong Ping, and Irfan have always been there for me, even after all these years. Whenever I needed a listening ear, they would always be there to help me through difficult periods in my life, and they’ve always had my back. Their support has really helped me in my development.” He also acknowledged the role of Coach David Tay from Sports School, who continued to offer guidance even after he graduated. “Even after I left, he would help me from time to time when I saw him around. During my time in Sports School, he was always pushing me to be a better version of myself everyday.”
We congratulate Jun Rui on his achievement. It serves as an inspiration to aspiring student-athletes, demonstrating the importance of perseverance, leadership, and balance in both sports and academics. Keep soaring!
