ROARing Leaders
ROAR Award – January 2025
Two outstanding student-athletes, Janelle Yeo Run En and Rayfield Tay Yu Hong, were recognised for their leadership and dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment. Their commitment to uplifting their peers and strengthening the school community sets a remarkable example for all.
Janelle, the President of the Student Council, led the charge for Project Cura – a volunteering initiative designed for student-athletes to unite in caring for both the community and the environment. As the driving force behind Project Cura, she guided her team with inclusivity, ensuring every student-athlete had an opportunity to contribute. Her vision and determination resulted in a successful clothing donation drive, collecting enough donations to fill two large containers for a meaningful cause. Taking full responsibility for planning and execution, Janelle demonstrated exceptional resilience and problem-solving skills, overcoming obstacles with a forward-thinking approach. Her passion and dedication continue to inspire and cultivate leadership among the volunteers involved in the project.
Rayfield's leadership was highlighted in his role in choreographing and executing this year’s school dance. Taking the initiative to create the routine, he worked closely with the EXCO team to refine it, actively incorporating their input. Stepping out of his comfort zone, Rayfield confidently taught the dance to the entire school, inspiring his peers through his dedication and enthusiasm. His resilience shone through as he embraced feedback, stayed motivated, and overcame challenges, leaving a lasting impact on the school community.
Both Rayfield and Janelle embody the core values of resilience, ownership, adaptability, and respect, making them deserving recipients of the ROAR Award. Their contributions have significantly enriched the school community, and we look forward to watching their leadership continue to flourish in the future.
On top of the two ROAR Award recipients, a special mention was given to Secondary 3 shooters and multi-sport student-athletes, who came together to spread Chinese New Year cheer. With thoughtfulness and care, they handcrafted appreciation cards for the school’s cleaners and laundry staff, recognizing the often-unseen efforts that contribute to the smooth running of the school. In addition, they rallied their parents to contribute festive goodies, which were personally presented just before the celebrations. This gesture not only showed gratitude for these essential staff members but also highlighted the student-athletes’ awareness and appreciation of the community that supports them. Even as they pursue their academic and sporting goals, these student-athletes remain mindful of those who help create a comfortable and welcoming environment for all.
