Ming Ying Makes History with Double Wins
WTT Youth Contender Cappadocia 2025
Rising table tennis star, Loy Ming Ying, has taken Türkiye by storm, claiming two Singles titles at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Contender Cappadocia 2025. The Secondary 3 student-athlete put on a dazzling display, smashing her way to victory in the Girls’ Under-17 Singles before clinching a second title in just three days in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles. This incredible achievement crowns her as Singapore’s youngest-ever WTT Under-19 champion, marking a new milestone in her young career.
Ming Ying was in unstoppable form throughout the Under-17 Singles competition. Dropping just one game in the entire tournament, she stormed through the rounds before sealing her title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Iran’s Vania Yavari in the finals.
Undeterred by her first triumph, she carried her momentum into the Under-19 Singles event. After a bye to the quarter-finals, she faced a stern test against Marziyya Nurmatova of Azerbaijan in a thrilling, back-and-forth encounter. With nerves of steel, Ming Ying edged out a hard-fought 3-2 victory (11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5).
She then faced Setayesh Iloukhani of Iran, a familiar opponent whom she had already defeated once in the competition. Once again, she proved her superiority, winning in straight sets (12-10, 11-8, 11-5) to secure a place in the final. There, she took on Slovenia’s Sara Tokic and delivered a flawless 3-0 victory to complete her remarkable double-gold campaign.
With two titles in the bag in February, Ming Ying reflected on her remarkable success: “To win one title is great, but to win two is really a fantastic achievement. I just went out and focused on playing my best and giving it my all. I want to build on this momentum and strive for greater success in future competitions.”
